Hal Holbrook just last month (February 17th) to be exact celebrated his 90th birthday and there’s no slowing down for this busy actor. With more than 60 years of experience portraying Mark Twain and more than 17 hours of material committed to memory Mr. Holbrook continues to add new material to his one-man show Mark Twain Tonight! making it fresh and new for each and every performance. It’s quite fitting that he will be spending tax day with us in Henderson, KY for his April 15th show as he surely will have some comments regarding Congress, taxes and politics. He refers to his over 2,300 performances in Mark Twain Tonight! as a work in progress much like society, politics and culture today.
Whether grouped with Washington DC delagates or aboard a massive Mississippi riverboat Twain’s ever-timeless stories continue to captivate, entertain and present literary history in humorous blasts of social criticism. Holbrook says, “This show gets me out of the bed in the morning. I think about it when I’m trying to go to sleep. I think about the material and how it applies to what’s happening in the world today. What I’m putting into the show and what I’m getting out of it specifically relates to what’s going on in the world today and in our counrtry,” says Harlod Rowe Holbrook Jr.
Please join us for a great evening of epic, historical oratory proportions as Mr Holbrook portrays Samuel Clemens in Mark Twain Tonight! on Wednesday April 15, 7pm at Henderson Fine Arts Center.
